After a little messing around at my own Denton apartment I stumbled upon the initial motivic nugget that would eventually become the title track “Nef.”  I took the groove into Cam’s studio and there we would create version after version, each with new colors and material provided by recorded instruments as well as midi sounds.  After 6 months of listening, composing and tracking we had 8 versions of “Nef.”  But I knew there was one, final version to be recorded. With only two weeks left until my move from Denton to New York City I set the final sessions into motion by asking Drew Zaremba for an ambitious string arrangement. We recorded the majority of the track in two days. Day one involved an intense tracking session with Quamon Fowler, Stefan Karlsson, Drew Zaremba, Jordan Gheen, Matt Young and myself with Cam at the controls.  Day two allowed me to sit back and listen to the superb string sextet made up of Caitlin Whitehouse, Channing Hooper, Jesus Saenz, Ha Dang, Miriam Oddie, Alexis Barnett.  Later we tracked John Sturino on vibraphone.  Although much work was to be done with editing and mixing I was relieved to have completed the version of "Nef" which I had envisioned for so many months.
